GETTING STARTED. Take either of the following online, self-scored assessments if you're just getting started and want to develop a broad profile of your interests, skills, and values, as well as information on potential majors and careers:
Bridges®, an online career exploration and planning program recommended for freshmen and sophomores. The program includes several self-assessment tools that profile your interests, abilities, basic and transferable skills, and work values.
Focus2® is a new web-based career exploration tool for students uncertain about their major or career direction. With this helpful starting point in exploring your values, interests, and abilities and how they relate to specific careers, you can map out your career path and plan your academic career early. Students can also explore different majors and careers based on the degree or career, areas of concentration, projected growth and demand, and profiles of professionals. All majors offered at UNC Charlotte and more than 800 career options are available to explore, with video links to more than 300 careers. Print out your results and review with a career advisor.
FOR FURTHER EXPLORATION. The following assessments are available to students and alumni 0-3 years after graduation. You MUST meet with a trained advisor to obtain results:
Strong Interest Inventory®, an in-depth instrument for undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni, is used to explore majors and careers, as well as ideal work environments and preferred work styles.
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, an online personality assessment suitable for both undergraduate and graduate students, is used in exploring the impact of personality preferences on careers, work environments, learning styles, and more.
