Matthew serves as a liaison for the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, specifically, with the Communication Studies, Criminal Justice & Criminology, English, History, Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies Departments to increase integration of careers and academics. He also counsels students while they navigate their career path. Providing insight, support and resources, Matthew believes the career you want can be the career you get with hard work by both student and himself. His particular area of interest in career services is working with transfer students, non-traditional students and LGBTQ students. Matthew also serves as the Assistant Director for the Mock Interview Program. In this role, he strives to create a culture of professional development by assisting 49ers in becoming interview ready. Whether it is for their first job, an internship or just for practice, the Mock Interview Program allows students to practice their skills in one-on-one counseling sessions, with employers in their field, and in the classroom.
Originally from Southwestern, VA, Matthew came to UNC Charlotte from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, where he served as a Career Counselor & Employer Liaison. Prior to going to Marymount Manhattan College, he served as a graduate assistant at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. There he was the Internship Coordinator for The College of Arts & Letters and the Liaison for OUT for Work. Matthew holds a Master of Arts in Lifespan & Digital Communication and a Bachelor of Science in Communications from Old Dominion University. During his spare time Matthew enjoys being outdoors, going to the movies, and playing on the Stonewall Sports League in Charlotte.
